Innocence - Poem
We shamed away the innocence
Redefining mess as something that needs forgiveness
Building bars around the stars
Blinders to keep my mind writing
stories that keep life boring
Never soaring
Always sore in the places
Where faces seem misplaced
In a world that forgot
that grace lives in mistakes
And heaven lies in the eyes that see
polka dotted skies
And seas that live in trees
And monkeys that hug the bees
In a world that forgot
that innocence is the key
To all of our creativity
Innocence…in no sense
In no sense will I make my life a penance
a mask to wear over my natural reverence
To hold in magic just because
it doesn’t make sense
In no sense will I become senseless
numbing out just so I can pay rent
To be heaven sent whilst always fearing the wrong step
When did praying turn into lines of words
that rip my heart from singing with the birds
or digging in the dirt
To make a mud cover shirt
the art that gave birth
to a world filled with worth
When did learning become earning
A right to be on this earth
Picking up scraps
of papers with lifeless words
Creating cages
around the youthful sages
to keep this world
seeing for ages and ages
Innocence…a word
of intimidation
Fearful of the freedom that comes
Where definitions come undone
A life no longer needing to be won
Innocence,
brings chaos to conditioning
begs us to come alive again
from within
To untether the thoughts
the keep our inner-child hiding
To become nothing in a world filled with “knowing”
Lovingly tending to our seeds
to keep them growing
Innocence asks us to be,
without making sense
Sense
this dense penance to keep in the brilliance
that has always been within us
Sense
which tells us that a reason is needed
to simple be…free
Let’s create again without the limits
that ever told us
It had to make sense…
I dare you, color outside the lines
Go back to your inner-sense
and let yourself shine
