Medicine, Made within - Poem

We are our own medicine keepers

not seekers

We have been here all along

banging our own drum

singing our sacred song

that reminds us we are ONE

We have forgotten this

in time

spending our lives

to make a dime

pulling weeds out of our minds

only to drink away our kind

We have forgotten what we are

paying in blood to earn a car

We have forgotten how to tend

to the medicine cabinet in our head

Here is a gentle but stern reminder

to pause and take the time to

listen to what’s inside you

you are the medicine you seek

Here standing at your feet

is your walking liberation

your standing ovation

to the healing of our nation

When you realize

that behind those eyes

lies a thousand ways

to cease the pain

and walk away

from anything that didn’t leave you feeling vital…today

Today, is a day to see

that you are the medicine you seek

would you take you, to heal?

if not, can you take a moment to get real…

with yourself, with your life,

will you open up your eyes

How pure will you be

when you finally see

that you are the medicine you seek
